I am a tradie, and I use AI every day in my business. Here are some very useful ways to use AI in your business, ranked from easiest to set up to hardest.
- Writing replies to unhappy customers. No explanation needed. 😉
- Looking up regulations. Yes, you know the regs, but it's great for when you're checking something really specific.
- Tidying up job notes. Most job management apps have this now. Chuck in your scrappy notes from site and get back something legible. (You should still proofread them though!)
- Finding product specs. I find this one so handy. Upload the product manual and ask it the question, instead of scrolling through 80 pages to find the right spec.
- Fault finding in the field. Your technicians can get it to read the manual for them and tell them what a fault code means while they're working on a specific machine.
- Drafting quotes. Give it the job details plus your usual materials and pricing, and it'll draft the quote for you to check. This is something our app Service Ninja does really well. It learns your pricing model over time and gets really good at getting a quote right, just like you would.
- Transcribing your phone calls. You'll need a way to record calls (aka a CRM), but once that's set up you can search what was said. Ask your AI "what was the customer's name and number from the job at Kowhai Grove on Tuesday?" and it'll all come up.
- Digging through your emails for customer details. How long ago did I do work for this person? What did we quote them last time? You have to connect it to your email to set this up, but it works a treat once it's done.
- Tracking leads. I get it to figure out which of my leads actually turned into jobs, then analyse how our leads are coming in at the moment.
- Working out how much revenue is coming from my Google ad spend. This takes a bit of setup because it has to join up your ad account with your jobs and invoices. It's worth it though, because you can see if your ad spend is working.
- Building or updating your website and doing your SEO. Ok, this one takes some time, and you need someone to make sure everything is secure. But it's awesome at building a professional-looking website that you can hand off to someone to deploy.
